while vessel users stood in wait.

following the sudden collapse of a landing jetty at Isaka community in Okrika Local Government Area of Rivers State.
It was gathered that the incident happened on Saturday evening as passengers were struggling to return to Port Harcourt from the community.
Most of the victims reportedly attended a burial that attracted many people to the area that day,
and were hurrying to return to the capital city of the state, when the jetty caved in and too with it a group of unsuspecting potential Passengers.
The dilapidated, worn-out jetty was said to have collapsed following the weight of over 80 people standing weight.
With the absence of any form of maintenance to the busy jetty, the unexpected took place.
The unexpected incident took place with young and old all struggling to float, while pulling each other back into the water, as survival instinct kicked in,
making it hard for escape and rescue to take place immediately as the jetty itself was prepared for such possiblity yet unforeseen incident.
All the passengers were said to have fallen into the river tr*ggering fears of stampede and drowning.
